The Chasam Sofer rules that nechmeru bnei me'ayim applies exclusively to direct fire, not to boiling water, so oxen fattened on hot distillery byproducts are not presumptively suspect for this treifah. If internal organ defects are found before cooking they render the animal treif on independent grounds; changes found only after cooking cannot be attributed to nechmeru and the animal is permitted. The enumerated list of treifos cannot be expanded, and the fact that some animals died from drinking boiling water is irrelevant to treifah status.
