Validity of Mikvah Fed by Spring via Pipe and Nizchalin Rule

The Chasam Sofer rules that a mikvah continuously fed by a pipe from a natural spring is fully valid even when water is drawn out, as the rule that flowing waters (nizchalin) do not combine applies only to rainwater and only to combining separate pools — not to connecting a mikvah to a spring. The spring's connection elevates the mikvah's status regardless of whether water falls from above, and the local rabbi's lenient ruling was correct without any doubt.
