A man who performed chalitzah on his right foot later claimed to be left-footed in order to extort additional payment. The Chasam Sofer rules the man cannot retract his prior statement, relying on the Talmudic principle that one believed through biyado or mah li l'shaker cannot subsequently retract, combined with rov and ein adam meisim atzmo rasha; the chalitzah is valid and the woman is free to remarry. As a practical measure, he suggests offering the man the opportunity to perform a second chalitzah at no cost, since willingness to undergo the degradation without payment would lend some credibility to his claim.
