Geese with button-like cystic growths near the gizzard containing worms are ruled treif if both esophageal layers show diseased flesh or worm-made perforations on both sides; if only the inner layer is affected with no external defect visible, multiple grounds for leniency apply, including doubt whether the worms emerged during the animal's lifetime, the location in the transitional pirtzi pirtzi zone, and the continuous presence of the worm preventing healing.
