The Chasam Sofer refutes the She'elas Shalom's emendation of a problematic term in the She'iltos (Parashas Behar) by proving that Rabbi Yehudah, Rabbi Yosi, and Rabbi Shimon were contemporaries in the same beis midrash, making it impossible that each described different generational realities. He proposes emending the text to "כדבא" (from the root meaning "to cease"), so that the Tannaitic dispute concerns not when grafting takes root but when the capacity to take root expires — resolving both the She'iltos passage and defending the Terumas HaDeshen's ruling on Chadash against the Shach's critique, while cautioning that those who hold Chadash is a Torah-level prohibition outside Eretz Yisrael should not rely on the resulting leniency.
