A poor Jew soaks oats for resale, then deposits them with a non-Jew as collateral during Pesach. The Chasam Sofer rules the grain is forbidden as chametz she'avar alav haPesach, but the money from the non-Jew's independent sale may be accepted as a gift, directed to creditors and hekdesh.
