Shinui Makom During a Meal and Bread as Tafel to Drinking

From: Rabbi Moshe Isserles

To: Brisk

Description

The Rema rules that one should not uproot from one’s place during a meal without first reciting the concluding berachah; notwithstanding certain dissenting views, he maintains that le-chatchila it is prohibited to change location without a berachah. Regarding the consumption of bread to enhance drinking, the Rema determines that such bread is halachically tafel to the beverage. Accordingly, it does not require its own berachah or netilas yadayim, unless it is eaten prior to the drinking, in which case it assumes independent status.
