Shehiyah on Stove and Shema Yechateh Analysis

From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer

To: Rabbi Yisrael

Description

A young scholar questions Tosfos's distinction between food on coals versus in a pot regarding the concern of stoking coals (shema yechateh). The Chasam Sofer resolves this by distinguishing between partially cooked and completely raw food, and raises a novel question about whether food improperly left on a stove becomes muktzeh.
