The community's Sefer Torah had the compound name Ba'al Chanan written across two lines, with no scribe available to correct it. The Chasam Sofer ruled that while the Sefer Torah ideally requires correction, the community may temporarily use it in pressing circumstances by combining several lenient opinions, including the possibility that Ba'al Chanan is a title rather than a compound personal name and his own prior analysis supporting the Ohr Torah's framework.
