Repairing Letters of God's Name in a Sefer Torah

The Chasam Sofer permits adding fresh ink to a damaged letter of God's name in a Sefer Torah, ruling that adding ink is not prohibited chok tochos and that any incidental displacement of aged ink is permissible either as grama or because the Ri and Rosh allow erasure of God's name for repair purposes. He also rules that a hole on the outer edge of a letter does not invalidate the mukaf gevil requirement, and that patching the parchment from outside is appropriate and does not raise concerns about external parchment serving as mukaf gevil.
