The opening exchange of a polemic between the Rabbis of Tzfas and Jerusalem concerning the renewal of smicha and restarting of the Sanhedrin. Mahari Beirav believed that the smicha he had received with the consensus of the Rabbis of Tzfas was sufficient to restart the chain of smicha as it was originally given, while the Maharalbach and the Rabbis of Jerusalem fiercely disagreed
