Reconciling Hot Milk on Cold Meat with Mouse Found in Fat

From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer

To: Unknown recipient

Description

The Chasam Sofer resolves an apparent contradiction between Rema's rulings in YD 91 and YD 104 by distinguishing between a single splash of hot liquid onto a cold prohibited item — where only the bottom layer makes contact and peeling is impossible, so the Riva'a permits the whole — versus continuous pouring, where each successive drop contacts the prohibited item anew, rendering the entire poured quantity forbidden. He rejects the Pelesi's resolution based on the heteira bala distinction as unreasonable.
