The Chasam Sofer rejects the claim that the Yiddish name Zimmel is a diminutive of the biblical name Zimah, arguing no Jew would use a name meaning 'counsel of sin,' and that the connection was unknown to all get scribes. He rules that when a person's original Hebrew name was forgotten and a new name adopted (not due to illness), the proper formulation is 'demeskriya' rather than 'hamechuneh,' since the former kinui assumes primary status and the newly adopted name relates to it through 'demeskriya.' The get in question is upheld as valid based on testimony from community members that Zimmel is a kinui for Naftali.
