Permissibility of Wine After Gentile Contact During Production

Description

A common person drew wine from a vat using his hand as a strainer, and non-Jewish workers subsequently handled the wine without knowing hemshachah had occurred; the vat was then mixed with several other vats. The Chasam Sofer permits the wine based on a combination of leniencies: the gentile was unaware the liquid was wine, stam yeinam is treated no more strictly than pas akum or bishul akum in our times, numerous Rishonim dispute whether hemshachah even occurred, and the problematic wine was nullified by a majority of kosher wine from other vats.
