Permissibility of sheep surviving a predator attack with no visible wounds

Description

After a predator entered a sheep enclosure and killed six sheep, the Chasam Sofer addresses whether the surviving uninjured sheep are forbidden as safek derusah. Relying on a combination of leniencies appropriate to significant financial loss, including the nichbeshinhu v'niyadinhu mechanism, he permits the surviving sheep while requiring forty-eight of the last-remaining sheep to be sold to a non-Jew.
