The Chasam Sofer rules that a goose known to have been pricked by a needle is forbidden without lung inspection, and since expertise in such inspection is lacking, it is effectively prohibited. For geese purchased generally, however, one may rely on the rov of sellers who do not use this practice and the animal's chezkas heter from birth, though where the practice is common a conscientious person should inspect the lung.
