Matzah Ground in Mill Where Salt Was Found

From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer

To: Rabbi Shmuel Tzvi

Description

A scholar rents a non-Jew's mill, cleans it thoroughly, and grinds guarded wheat for Pesach matzah; eight days later a grain of salt is found between the millstones. The Chasam Sofer rules the matzah entirely valid, relying on the principle that once the millstone was inspected, any contaminant found later is presumed to have arrived after the inspection.
