Lighting Chanukah Candle from Another Candle

From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer

To: Unknown recipient

Description

The Chasam Sofer refutes Rabbi Yonah Landsofer's challenge to the Talmudic proof from the Menorah that lighting one candle from another does not constitute prohibited diminishment of a mitzvah. He demonstrates that a flame attached to its wick carries Torah-level prohibition even for hekdesh, validating the Mikdash proof universally, and further argues the miracle of the western lamp itself confirms no concern of akchushei mitzvah exists.
