A Jew who leased exclusive salt-selling rights asks whether his non-Jewish partner, who holds genuine ownership in the inventory and is paid per unit as a contractor, may operate the shop on Shabbos. The Chasam Sofer permits it given the genuine partnership, kablonus arrangement, and potential financial loss, but recommends ideally selling merchandise outright to the non-Jew before Shabbos.
