A drowned body near Pressburg was identified as Uziel ben Avraham Tritsch through a combination of tevi'as ayin of the body and all garments, name inscriptions on shirts, and three distinctive bodily signs described by his wife — unusual hairiness, a precisely located scar, and a precisely located red mark. The Chasam Sofer ruled on three independent grounds that the identification was sufficient and permitted the wife to remarry, and also allowed mourning to commence before the formal beis din hearing. The beis din formally accepted witnesses on Rosh Chodesh Iyar and unanimously permitted remarriage.
