From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer
To: Rabbi Yehuda Leib
The Chasam Sofer rules that the wife of Michal Steckler is permitted to remarry based on a combination of evidence: the distinctive ankle-bone deformity as a potential siman muvhak, the combination of colors across all non-lendable garments as a valid siman not subject to the borrowing concern, and the extreme remoteness of the borrowing scenario given a receipt found in the pocket and Michal's presence nearby shortly before death. He defers final concurrence to the Gaon of Banihard, after which a beis din of three should formally issue the heter.
