Halachic Obstacles to Offering Korbanos in Jerusalem Today

From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer

To: Unknown recipient

Description

The Chasam Sofer addresses three theoretical obstacles to offering sacrifices in Jerusalem: communal impurity is overridden for public offerings (tumah hutrah be-tzibbur), presumptive priestly status suffices for the avodah since the principle of 'Bareich Hashem Cheilo' validates even the service of chalalim, and the Kohen Gadol with his special garments is not required for ordinary sacrifices. The discussion is ultimately moot because Muslim authorities strictly prohibit non-Muslims from accessing the Temple Mount.
