Fitness of epileptic shochet and shaliach tzibbur for communal roles

From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer

To: Rabbi Wolf

Description

The Chasam Sofer validates the student's ruling permitting an epileptic shochet to continue, provided two shochtim work together and a time delay is observed after slaughter. For the shaliach tzibbur role, he permits the man to serve during lucid periods; on Rosh Hashanah the man should eat before davening, and on Yom Kippur he should lead only Kol Nidrei and pray in an adjacent room to avoid public distress if a seizure occurs.
