A chazan and shochet publicly confessed before communal leaders to forbidden relations with his wife's sister, then retracted, claiming the confession was a ruse to escape his duties. The Chasam Sofer rules that whether or not the confession was true, the brazenness of publicly uttering such a claim renders him a bazui disqualified from testimony and unfit for shechitah or leading prayers. He must be suspended immediately until a beis din of three rabbis convenes in the community to investigate and issue a definitive ruling.
