Erroneous Levi Designation in Father's Name in a Get

From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer

To: Rabbi Shmuel

Description

A woman's get recorded her as 'bas Ploni HaLevi' though her father was actually a Yisrael, and the husband could not be located for a corrected get. The Chasam Sofer rules leniently, permitting remarriage even lechatchila, distinguishing the wife's father's name (less publicly established) from the husband's father's name, and holding that the difficulty of obtaining a new get elevates the standard to bedieved.
