Erroneous Addition of 'Levi' to Father's Name in a Get

From: Rabbi Akiva Eiger

To: Unknown recipient

Description

Rabbi Akiva Eiger rules stringently that a get delivered via an agent is biblically void when the title 'Levi' was erroneously added to the father's name. He refutes the unnamed Gaon's lenient arguments by distinguishing ordinary documents from gittin: unlike regular documents, gittin carry the additional concern of la'az, and when delivered via an agent the name discrepancy creates a genuine d'Oraisa concern that the get may not have been sent by this woman's husband.
