The question concerns how to understand the Behag's ruling prohibiting eating on Erev Shabbos close to Minchah. The Chasam Sofer innovatively explains the Behag's view by linking it to the ruling of Shmuel (pores mapah u'mekadesh), and supports the Maharil's stringency that the prohibition begins from Minchah Gedolah.
