The Chasam Sofer defends the Shvus Yaakov's lenient ruling permitting meat salted alongside a possibly treif piece, demonstrating that the RABi'A's view — that salting only prohibits to the depth of a kelipah — is supported by the majority of Rishonim and qualifies as a legitimate safek for a sfek sfeka. He rules that while the RABi'A's view is not standard practice, it may be relied upon in combination with hefsed merubeh and seudas mitzvah, and recounts his own parallel ruling permitting five of six geese at a wedding feast after one was found treif.
