Correct Spelling of Eliya vs. Eliyahu in a Get

From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer

To: Unknown recipient

Description

The Chasam Sofer rules that 'Eliya' without a vav is the primary spelling of the patronymic name in the get, supported by the consistent spelling in the Eliya Zuta and an acrostic poem. He rejects the Noda BiYehudah's bereirah concern regarding dual-get procedure, arguing bereirah is inapplicable at the writing stage, and prefers the Mahariv's rationale — that the divorcer's intent might attach to the invalid get — as the proper basis for procedural caution.
