Classifying a Bride's Repeated Bleeding as Dam Besulim or Ro'ah Machamas Tashmish

Date: Adar Sheni 5589

From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer

To: Rabbi Meir

Description

A bride showed no blood after initial ha'ara'ah but bled with great pain after full consummation and again after immersion; the Chasam Sofer rules there is no concern whatsoever. Since ha'ara'ah naturally involves hatayah (deflection) without breaking the hymen, the first complete intercourse was the true consummation, and all subsequent bleeding accompanied by pain remains attributable to dam besulim. She is therefore not classified as a ro'ah machamas tashmish.
