Rabbi Moshe Leib questions why the Gemara (Shabbos 92a) needs a received tradition that one-third of a carried load rises above the shoulders, when the Altar's ring placement seemingly demonstrates this from Scripture alone. The Chasam Sofer corrects the Altar's dimensions, showing the netting occupies only two amos.
