From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer
To: Rabbi Gottlieb
The Chasam Sofer addresses three theoretical questions about a ben pekuah: (1) the milk of a bas pekuah is biblically permitted to cook with meat, as its halachic slaughter-status excludes it from the basar bechalav prohibition; (2) a thief who slaughters a ben pekuah is exempt from four/five-fold payment, since such slaughter is unnecessary to render the animal edible; (3) slaughtering a non-kalut ben pekuah on Shabbos incurs liability, and for a kalut ben pekuah both the Rambam and Rashba would find liability on different grounds.
