B'dieved Validity of a Get with Spelling Deficiency and Unconnected First Line

From: Rabbi Moshe Sofer

To: Rabbi Shalom Ulmann

Description

A get was written with the word דהות instead of דהוית (missing a yud) and with an unconnected first line. The Chasam Sofer rules the get valid b'dieved: the unconnected first line is well-established as valid after the fact, and the missing yud reflects a tense distinction rather than a grammatical person distinction, so the get still clearly addresses the wife being divorced. He advises that the arranging rabbi be rebuked to prevent future errors.
