Biography

Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv was a leading halachic decisor for the Lithuanian Torah community in Israel. After serving as a dayan on the Supreme Rabbinical Court of Israel, he resigned in 1972 and devoted the final four decades of his life to intensive study and the delivery of daily shiurim on halacha. His halachic opinions, preserved in volumes compiled by family members and talmidim, established foundational precedents in Israeli rabbinical jurisprudence and continue to guide contemporary halachic practice.
