Rabbi Yosef Nechemiah Kornitzer served as the Chief Rabbi of Kraków from 1925 until his death. A graduate of the Pressburg Yeshiva, he represented the Agudat Yisrael movement in the Polish parliament. His lineage traced back through Rabbi Akiva Kornitzer and Rabbi Eliyahu Kornitzer to a daughter of the Chasam Sofer.
