Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik was the progenitor of the Brisker school of Talmudic analysis. He served as the Rabbi of Slutsk before assuming the rabbinate of Brisk, where he opposed the Haskalah movement. His primary work, Beis HaLevi, contains responsa and analytical novellae that exemplify his method. This analytical approach was further developed by his son, Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik.
