Biography

Rabbi Yosef ben Lev, known by his acronym Maharibal, was a leading posek in the Ottoman Empire during the sixteenth century and a contemporary of Rabbi Yosef Karo. He served as a dayan in Salonika and later in Constantinople. His four-volume Shu"t Maharival is a cornerstone of Sephardic responsa literature.
