Rabbi Yonasan Steif was an Av Beis Din in Budapest and a leading halachic authority in pre-war Hungary. After surviving the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, he immigrated to the United States and served as a posek for Hungarian expatriates in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He was highly respected in Satmar circles and served them as a halachic decisor. His extensive responsa, published as She'eilos u'Teshuvos Mahari Steif, are widely cited.
