Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum was the founder and first Rebbe of the Satmar Chassidic court. He was a Hungarian Chassidic leader and posek who rebuilt his community in the United States after the Holocaust. He articulated a strict, separationist Haredi ideology, including opposition to political Zionism and modern secular culture. His writings, including VaYoel Moshe and collections such as Divrei Yoel and Al HaGeulah Ve’al HaTemurah, systematized his halachic and hashkafic positions for his followers.
