Rabbi Yoel Sirkis served as Chief Rabbi of Brisk and Kraków. He authored Bayis Chadash, a commentary on the Tur that emphasized the plain meaning of the Gemara and textual emendation. He was a leading figure in the Vaad Arba Aratzos and was known for his halachic leadership, including a leniency regarding Chodosh in Europe. His Hagahos are standard corrections for the Talmud.
