Rabbi Yitzchak HaLevi Herzog was a rabbinic scholar and halachic authority who served as the first Chief Rabbi of Ireland and later as the inaugural Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel. He authored the multi-volume responsa collection Heichal Yitzchak, Main Institutions of Jewish Law, and Techukah leYisrael al pi haTorah, addressing halachic challenges of the modern state. In 1940, he founded the Ozar ha-Posekim digest of responsa and the Harry Fischel Institute for Research in Jewish Law to train dayyanim for Israel's rabbinical courts.
