Rabbi Yisrael Meir Kagan, known by the title of his first major work, the Chofetz Chaim, was a halachic authority in Eastern Europe. From his yeshiva in Radun, he authored the Mishnah Berurah, a halachic commentary on the Orach Chayim section of the Shulchan Aruch. He also composed ethical tracts such as Chofetz Chaim and Shemiras HaLashon, which detail the laws regarding prohibited speech. His works are foundational to contemporary Orthodox Jewish law and ethics.
