Rabbi Yisrael Alter was the fifth Rebbe of the Ger chassidus, leading the movement from 1948 until his passing and rebuilding it in Israel after the Holocaust. Known by the title of his posthumously published sefer Beis Yisrael, he combined leadership of a large Chassidic court with influential involvement in Agudas Yisrael and the broader ultra-Orthodox community in Israel. His derashos and writings on Torah and chassidus became central texts within Ger and later generations of his chassidim.
