A scion of the Abuchatzeira rabbinic dynasty of Morocco, Rabbi Yisrael Abuchatzeira was known as the Baba Sali. After serving as a dayan in Morocco, he immigrated to Israel in 1951, eventually settling in Netivot. He was known for his personal piety, asceticism, and the belief in his ability to perform miracles, making him a central figure in North African Jewish piety.
