Rabbi Yeshaya Berlin was a German Talmudist and later rabbi of Breslau, known in rabbinic literature as Rabbi Yeshaya Pick after his father-in-law, Rabbi Wolf Pick of Breslau. His primary scholarly identity lay in critical and historical commentaries, glosses, and notes on earlier rabbinic works, most prominently Mesores HaShas on the Talmud. His emendations and collations to classic texts became standard scholarly tools for identifying variant readings and parallel passages in rabbinic literature.
