Rabbi Yehuda Mintz, originally from Mainz, Germany, became a leading rabbinic authority in 15th-century Italy. For 47 years, he served as the Chief Rabbi of Padua and headed its yeshiva, training numerous students. His legal rulings are preserved in his collected responsa, Shu"t Mahari Mintz, published posthumously by his grandson-in-law, Rabbi Meir Katzenellenbogen of Padua. He also authored Seder Gittin ve-Halitzah, a foundational work on the laws of divorce.
