Biography

Rabbi Yehuda ben Attar was an Av Beis Din and communal rabbi of Fez, known as Rabbi al-Kabbir among his contemporaries. He led the beis din and yeshiva in Fez for decades, supporting himself through trade and refusing remuneration for his judicial functions. His halachic legacy includes takanot for the kehillos of western Morocco and sefarim such as Minchas Yehuda on Torah, works on minhagei treifos in Fez, dinaei get vechalitzah, she’eilos u’teshuvos and pesakim, and Shir Michtam on hilchos shechitah and treifos.
