Rabbi Yehuda Assad was a leading posek in Hungary and a principal heir of the Chasam Sofer's legacy, heading the rabbinate and yeshiva of Dunaszerdahely. He defended traditional Orthodoxy against the rising Reform movement and is known for his responsa work Shu"t Yehuda Ya'aleh.
