Rabbi Simcha Bunim Alter was the sixth Gerrer rebbe, leading the Ger chassidus from 1977 until his passing and playing a significant role in Israeli religious and political life. He authored the Lev Simcha and related works and instituted the Yerushalmi Yomi program for daily study of a page of the Talmud Yerushalmi. As head of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Agudas Yisrael, he was a central halachic and spiritual authority for the movement’s activities in the State of Israel.
