Rabbi Shmuel Salant was the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem and a leading Torah authority in the Old Yishuv. He was known for his communal leadership, his halachic rulings, and his role in founding and guiding the Eitz Chaim yeshiva and other Jerusalem institutions. He served as the central rabbinic figure of Jerusalem’s Ashkenazi community for nearly seven decades.
